Fishing Basics

Fishing in Palia uses a simple cast-and-reel minigame. Equip your fishing rod from your hotbar, find a body of water, and hold the cast button to aim. A golden circle shows where your bobber will land — aim for dark rippling patches for better fish. Once a fish bites, tap the button rapidly to reel it in before the tension bar breaks.

🎣

Tip: Aim for the dark circular ripples on the water surface. These spots have better fish and higher chances of rare catches. They appear and disappear every few minutes.

Bait Types

Using bait increases the rarity of fish you can catch and attracts specific species. You can craft bait at your crafting station or buy it from Tish at the fish market.

Leveling Up Fishing

Each fish you catch rewards XP proportional to its rarity. Legendary fish give the most XP but are time-consuming to find. For efficient leveling, focus on areas with high fish density and rotate between two or three spots to let them reset.

Expert Fishing Tips

  • Fish with Focus active — every catch gives bonus XP.
  • Target ripple spots — dark water ripples always have higher rarity fish.
  • Time your visits — some rare fish only appear at night or during rain. Plan your fishing sessions around this.
  • Upgrade your rod — higher-tier rods increase catch speed and reduce the chance of fish escaping.
  • Co-op fishing — fishing near a friend gives bonus XP to both players.
  • Sell star-quality fish — if a fish is caught in a ripple spot it may be ★ quality and worth significantly more gold.

FAQ

Fisherman's Lagoon in the west of Kilima Valley is widely considered the best early-game spot. It has a high density of uncommon fish and reliable ripple spawns. Mirror Pond is better for rare fish at night.
Legendary fish require Level 8+ fishing, Enchanted Lure bait, and specific conditions (location, time, weather). The Ancient Anglerfish in Bahari Bay's deep water at night is one of the most sought-after legendaries.
Star quality (★) fish are caught in ripple spots and worth significantly more gold — usually 40-60% more. Always prioritize ripple spots if you're fishing for income.
