Bug Catching Basics
Bug catching uses your Smoke Bomb. Equip it, sneak up on an insect, and toss the bomb when you're close enough. The smoke stuns the bug long enough for you to catch it. Moving too fast, jumping, or getting too close before throwing will spook the insect and it will fly away.
Tip: Always crouch (default: hold Shift/L-stick) when approaching bugs. Walking normally is enough for most common bugs, but rare and epic species require full crouching to get within throw range.

Bug Catching Tips
- Crouch for rare bugs. Epic and legendary insects require you to be fully crouched to get within throwing range.
- Check time and season. Many valuable bugs are time or season restricted. Plan nighttime bug catching sessions for rare species.
- Friendship with Najuma. Najuma gives location hints and unlock rewards for rare bugs — raise her friendship to Level 4 before serious bug catching.
- Fireflies at night near water. The Flashfeather Firefly is one of the most visually spectacular (and valuable) bugs. Summer nights near Kilima Valley ponds.
- Legendary bugs = big gold. A Crystal Cicada sells for 280g. Spending an early spring morning hunting for one is worth the effort.
FAQ
You're moving too fast or getting too close. Crouch the entire time and approach very slowly. For legendary bugs, you may need to stop completely every few steps and wait for the bug to settle before moving closer.
The Crystal Cicada (Legendary) is considered the rarest. It only appears at dawn in spring, in a very specific spot near ancient trees in Kilima Valley. It sells for 280g and is Najuma's absolute dream catch.
