Use Focus to level faster. Every skill gains bonus XP while you have Focus active. Eat food to restore Focus, and prioritize high-quality meals for the biggest XP multiplier. See our Focus System Guide for full details.
How Skills Work in Palia
Palia has eight skills, each with 10 levels. Every skill has its own XP bar. Performing activities related to that skill — fishing, harvesting crops, mining ore, etc. — fills the XP bar and levels you up.
At each new level you unlock new items, recipes, abilities, or content tied to that skill. Some skill levels also unlock Renown bonuses and new NPC dialogue.
Focus Multiplier
The Focus system is Palia's energy mechanic. When your Focus bar is full, all skill XP gains receive a significant multiplier. Eating food restores Focus. The more nutritious the meal, the more Focus it restores. See the Focus Guide for the best foods.

Universal XP Tips
- Always eat before grinding. Food restores Focus, and Focus multiplies XP gain. Never skill without it.
- Batch your activities. Focus drains based on XP earned. Plan large activity sessions (e.g., full fishing runs) right after eating a big meal.
- Do daily quests. Many daily quests reward skill XP in addition to gold and Renown.
- Co-op shares XP. Some activities like group fishing or helping a friend mine give XP to all nearby players.
- Gift relevant items. Gifting villagers items related to your skill sometimes triggers skill XP bonuses.
